Friday 12th - Sunday 14th December
Medieval Christmas at the Castle
Forget buying presents on the web - buy them in a castle instead! This Yuletide, the clock is turning back at Newcastle's Castle Keep for a medieval shopping extravaganza. The three-day event takes place Friday 12th - Sunday 14th December 2014, only a few months ahead of the building's historic relaunch.
The medieval market is being laid on by Time and Tide Events, responsible for other time-bending activities at venues such as Bede's World. Centuries ago, food was not just a necessity but a luxury too. On offer will be food at its most luxurious, including all sorts to delight the taste buds, both sweet and savoury. Local merchants will be giving tutorials in forgotten arts such as lace-making and wool spinning, and selling their wares too; a mix of the unusual and the traditional - perfect for last-minute stocking filler inspiration!
There will also be olde worlde entertainment to rival even the most unmissable Christmas TV schedule. Medieval musician Paul Martin will be whisking visitors back in time, and there will be festive storytelling from North East favourites The Moss Troopers. Visitors can also experience sword fencing demonstrations led by the Black Gate Combat Academy, named after the Castle's ancient barbican tower.
