The 'Old Newcastle - Where the Story Begins' Project is a £1.67 million project which focuses on Newcastle's military, social and creative heritage using the medieval Black Gate as a new portal to the city's rich history and culture. The project will create an accessible, heritage-led learning and interpretation centre in the Black Gate, transforming it into a hub of activity that will be open and available to the entire community and visitors from near and far. The Black Gate will combine with its medieval neighbours, the Castle Keep and the Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas to provide an outstanding and dynamic heritage asset that will tell the story of the remarkable history of Newcastle and the ingenuity of countless generations of its inhabitants.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a significant heritage-led project within Newcastle. The Old Newcastle Project Learning Officer will play a key role in the project by developing and delivering creative and inspiring learning programmes for a variety of audiences, developing a range of learning resources (off-site, on-site and online) as well as co-ordinating and training education volunteers and helping deliver a vibrant events programme.
To underpin this activity the Learning Officer will develop a structured Learning Programme aligned with the National Curriculum. The post holder will be managed by the Project Manager and will require close working with a variety of delivery teams across the venues.
